Draft, pending legal review. These terms aren't final and need a solicitor's review before launch. Anything highlighted still has to be filled in or confirmed.

Terms of use

These terms apply when you use this site, its guides, its browser tool and its waitlist. "We" means [CONTROLLER NAME]. "You" means the person using the site. By using the site, you agree to these terms.

Last updated: [LAST UPDATED DATE]. Our privacy page explains how data is handled.

What the service is

  • Guides that show how to request your own data from the companies that hold it.
  • A tool that opens those exports in your browser and shows them on a timeline.
  • A waitlist for people who want to hear about possible future features.

What it isn't

  • It isn't a backup or storage service. We don't hold your exports.
  • It isn't a place to share, sell, buy or donate data. None of that exists here.
  • It isn't connected to, or approved by, the companies it mentions. Their names belong to them.
  • It isn't legal, financial or investment advice.

A free tool in development

The service is free, it's still being developed and it's provided as is. It may change, stop or be unavailable at any time. The guides come from public help pages, so your screens may differ.

The tool may miss files or misread them. Timelines, journeys and recall comparisons may be incomplete. Topic suggestions are guesses and can be wrong. Check anything important against the original export.

Your exports and each platform's terms

You choose what to request and what to open. You're responsible for your exports, for keeping them safe, and for following the terms of each platform you use. We don't promise that a platform will provide an export, or what it will contain.

Your data stays on your device, so we can't recover it

The tool processes your data locally, in your browser. We don't receive it, so we can't restore, repair or retrieve it. If your browser's storage is cleared, or your device is lost or fails, the data in the tool is gone unless you've saved a copy. Keep your original exports, and save a copy of anything you want to keep.

Anyone who can use your browser profile, or who has a saved copy, may be able to read your data. Take care on shared computers.

Other people's data

Exports can include other people's data, such as names, addresses, comments, or activity on a shared account. Treat it with care. You're responsible for what you do with it, including any copy you save or pass on.

No advice

Nothing on this site is legal, financial or investment advice. That includes anything about the value of your data, your rights, or any possible future feature. If you need advice, ask a qualified professional.

The waitlist is not a promise

Joining the waitlist only means we may tell you if sharing or buying data becomes possible. It isn't a promise of any future payment, selling feature or other feature. It doesn't give you any right to money, and your place on the list has no value. We may never build these features.

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • break the law, or use the site to harm, track or expose another person
  • open someone else's export, or join the waitlist with someone else's email address, without their permission
  • attack or overload the site, or try to get around its security, rate limits or picture check
  • use bots to submit the waitlist form
  • present the site, or anything it produces, as approved by us or by any platform

We may block access to protect the site or other people.

Limits of our liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes anything that can't be limited or excluded under UK law. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, liability for fraud, and your rights under UK consumer law.

Subject to that:

  • we aren't liable for loss of data held in your browser or on your device, because it's out of our reach
  • we aren't liable for what you decide or do based on what the tool shows
  • we aren't liable for what a platform does, including how it responds to a request
  • we aren't liable for loss we couldn't reasonably have foreseen

Changes

We may change these terms. We'll put the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If you keep using the site after that, the new terms apply.

These terms cover the site as it is today. Any future feature for sharing, selling, donating or matching people with requests isn't covered, and would need its own terms.
